November 11, 2007 we dedicated a new, highly visible "Patriot Wall" in our South Foyer. The centerpiece of the wall is a board on which anyone can post the name(s) of loved ones deployed as well as those serving at home. Our goal for the prayer board on the Patriot Wall is to specifically lift military personnel to Almighty God for His protection, blessings, and mercy as they serve our country. Most of life seems to be spent trying to fulfill this undeniable urge for wholeness. Yet, for most people the emptiness remains. Is there an answer to our heart’s desire for a full and meaningful life?The Bible records Jesus as saying that He came to give life and to give it to the fullest. He said that He is the true and only way to enter into the place where the longings of the heart can be satisfied. Everything and anything else only robs us of life even though it may promise to give life. Jesus claims that God can and will graciously meet every person’s deepest longing for a complete life. A handful of Christians began meeting in the basement of a member’s home. After only a short while it was necessary to move their meeting place to a small school building on west Central Avenue. Very quickly the attendance grew. By the beginning of the next year, 1960, the church had purchased land at 10025 W Central and built their own building.Today the church continues to meet in the same location with a membership of over three hundred people. There are weekly Bible classes for all ages on Sunday morning and Wednesday night. There is an active Youth ministry of almost fifty teens. There is a Family ministry which includes state licensed counseling. There are fellowship groups for all ages. We do not have a Church Headquarters. We do not answer to any denominational board for acceptance or membership. We are independent of any other church rule. We are fully governed from within our own body. We are closely connected in fellowship, activity, cooperation, and teachings with other churches of Christ. We hold that Jesus of Nazareth was a real historical figure. He is revealed in the Bible to be God in the flesh, to have lived a perfect human life. Jesus is our representative and offered his life as a sacrifice to pay for all the debt owed to God because of sin. We trust the testimony of eye witnesses who recorded that they were with Him in His ministry, they saw Him die by crucifixion, buried in a tomb, saw Him alive again and witnessed Him ascend into the sky to never die again. They declared Jesus to be God, King, and Savior of all for all ages. Jesus is whom we follow. We are called by Him to enter into a personal relationship with God through His Holy Spirit. We pattern our lives after His life. We take our orders from only Him. He promises to come back one day and take all who are His to a new and perfect dwelling place. He says He will be with us and work with us until He comes back. Our purpose is to continue His ministry and teaching on earth and to tell as many people as we can about Him.
